The Sweetsify Story
The newlywed John and Maryanne Sweets immigrated from England to the United States of America after World War I in search of the American dream. John's family owned a bakery in England, and he grew up with a vast knowledge of creating sweet treats. John and Maryanne began making licorice treats for themselves and their neighbors, as this sweet was not found easily in Cleveland. John also knew a few recipes for making hard candy, so he and his wife produced these sweets that reminded them of their home.
Encouraged by their peers, the Sweets family turned their hobby into a business, and they broke ground on their brand-new candy factory and store in 1920. Sweetsify officially opened in 1921. The factory is located directly behind the candy store, which lets customers take home their favorite Sweetsify treats by self-serving a bag of candy. The shop sold many different types of candy that the Sweets had been concocting, such as licorice, hard candy, and chocolate bars. These original treats can still be found in stores today!
